Crossword generator
Write each word with its clue and the system interlocks the crossword on its own, numbers it, and builds the answer key. No signup, ready to print.
How to use the crossword in class
The difference from a word search is the clue. That is where you write the definition, so the activity asks for the concept and not just the spelling. It is why this one works as real review.
When it earns its place
- Content review rather than spelling: the clue is a question in disguise, and answering it needs understanding.
- Short homework, the kind a family can help with without knowing the subject.
- Light assessment, when you want to measure without the weight of a test.
- Closing a unit, gathering the terms that came up across the weeks.
Building a sheet that works
- Up to 10 words per sheet. Deliberately few: beyond that the fit loosens and the grid becomes scattered words.
- The content lives in the clue. “Planet closest to the Sun” teaches; “starts with M” only tests luck.
- Words sharing letters interlock better. If the system cannot cross them, it says so instead of printing a loose grid.
- From the 3rd grade up, since the child has to read the clue alone.
When you print
- The teacher's answer key prints in its own section, so print only the first part for the class.
- Clues print numbered under the grid, on the same sheet.
- It fits back-to-back with another activity if you want to save paper.
Take the others too
The sheet is ready.
